The great thing about Jersey City is its location. There is a lot to do in and around the town but it is also conveniently located right next to Manhattan.
Below is a list of some of our favorite spots, including restaurants, bars and walking paths.
Food and Drink:
The Hyatt is located close to our apartment and near Newark Ave/Grove Street. This is the downtown area of Jersey City and it houses some of the best places to eat and drink. Part of Newark Ave is blocked off to cars and is lined with cobblestone. Walking down this road you’ll find anything from pizza parlors to ice cream salons to southern food to rooftop bars.
Here are a few of our favorite places:
Two Boots: The best pizza slice in town. You can also grab a beer or wine and eat your pizza outside on Newark Ave.
Atlas: This is one of our favorite places to go to for a quick appetizer and drink. It has a sitting area in the back with leather couches. American food.
Porta: This place is huge and offers great Italian food. When the weather is warm, the restaurant opens its expansive bar on the roof with beautiful lighting and big screen televisions for those who want to watch football games.
WORD Bookstore: This is a cute place to visit and browse the book selection. It has a coffee and pastry stand in the back with the best apple cider donuts.
Farmer’s Market: This only occurs on Thursdays. So, if you’re in town you should stop by! It is set right outside of the Grove Street PATH station. It’s filled with fresh vegetables and meats as well as candles and homemade goods.
Orale: This is the best Mexican food in town and everyone knows it! That means you might need to make reservations. It gets crowded on the weekends. It has a fun atmosphere with great music and drinks. If you want to have a quiet dinner, though, this isn’t the place for you. It is definitely for a crowd that wants to have a good time! It is located on Grove Street.
Honshu: This is our favorite sushi spot. It is located just a few minutes from the Hyatt and is a quiet place to have a meal. It has excellent service.
Edward’s Steakhouse: This is a bit pricey but offers great fish and meat entrees in a quiet, dimly-lit setting.
Latham House: This is our go-to date spot. It has an eclectic menu with a cozy feel.
Rooftop at Exchange Place: This has one of the best views in town. There are two rooftop levels. One has a bar/lounge overlooking Manhattan. The other has outdoor fire pits. You pick!
What to do:
Walking/jogging: There’s a nice path along the water near the hotel. It wraps around the piers.
Liberty State Park: This is a short drive from the Hyatt. It has a great view of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty. You can get some long runs and walks here for those who like to get out!
Take the ferry to Manhattan: You can hop on the ferry and be in Manhattan in just minutes. We like to take the ferry from Harborside and go to Brookfield Place. There’s a mall there with a big outdoor eating area and a beautiful view.
Lutze Biergarten: This is a great place for those who want to kick back and relax outside with a beer. Great for groups.
Fall football and game hall: Hudson Hall is the place to watch football. It has multiple big screen televisions with community tables. Go here to have a good time and play some pool.
